Once they were all back on shore, Vince talked to the motor yacht owner Jake had pushed overboard and convinced him not to press charges. Jake gave the man several hundred-dollar bills to pay for his unauthorized charter and said, “Your boat helped save lives. She’s a special boat with good luck, and you should be proud of her.”

Then, Terrell and Alicia drove the Honda and gave Button a ride straight back to her mother, while Jake, Sarah and Cody followed in the SUV.

On arrival, everyone gathered in the living room, where Terrell called a security company, hiring them to post a guard in a marked car outside the family home.

Jake told Button’s mother, “I talked to my sister, Nicole, a psychiatrist. With your permission, she’d like to have a Skype or FaceTime session to help Button adjust to everything she’s been through.”

“Yes, please,” Button said. “I want to talk to Nicole.”

“We’ll use your mom’s phone, okay?” Jake asked both of them.

Button nodded, and her mother handed over the phone. Jake tapped his sister’s number from memory and chatted with her for a moment.

“Okay, Nicole. You’re on FaceTime with Button and her mom,” Jake said. “We’ll leave you to it.”

“You two find that man and stop him,” the mother said as Jake and Terrell were heading out.

“We will, I promise you that,” Terrell replied before closing and locking the front door. Then he had a word with the security guard while everyone else climbed into the SUV.

As they waited for Terrell, Alicia told Sarah, “Maybe when I fly home to California, I should have Button come with me and live at our house until they catch the bomber.”

Sarah nodded in agreement. “That’s a smart idea.”

When Terrell joined them and Jake drove off, Alicia ran the idea past her husband.

“Good thinking, Alicia,” Terrell agreed.

On the road, Jake didn’t verbalize what was on his troubled mind. He needed Sarah, Alicia and Button to leave town so he could go on a search and destroy mission. Jake felt that Orion was a high-value terrorist target, and he was the war veteran who had to exterminate him. It was decided. Orion would die by Jake’s hand. The sooner the better.
